HMRC have published the 2020/21 rates and thresholds early in a bid to support software developers prior to the start of the new tax year. These would usually be delivered after the UK budget.

The published areas cover UK Taxation, National Insurance, National Minimum Wage, Statutory Payments, Sickness, Student loans and car benefit and fuels and the full detail can be found here.

Given the amount of information already available the majority of confirmed amounts and rates were of little surprise, however, the update does confirm that private mileage rates will remain unchanged but more importantly it showed Scottish Tax thresholds as unchanged from 2019/20 even though in the Scottish budget announcement minor changes to the lower tax bands were confirmed.

This points to the fact that the new adjustments (still to be ratified by the Scottish Parliament) will not come into effect in April, rather they will be delayed to a date yet to be confirmed.

"I know it is not till next June but just booked on The Payroll Centre's Annual conference. This is my must do course/conference of the year, having been almost every year for 10+ years, only missing for my wedding and having a baby, I even went one year with a 3 month old in tow! "
