South Central Service NHS Foundation Trust has launched a new ‘bikes-for-work’ scheme to improve the health and wellbeing of the trusts 3,300 employees within the counties of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire.

The new scheme which was launched on 2nd July and provided by Green Commute Initiative (GCI), is to be made available to all staff across the organisation’s 45 sites, which includes 43 ambulance stations. The introduction of the scheme was announced at an internal event and via a digital flyer. To continue the role out of the scheme and to maintain interest and engagement, there are plans to host various future events at each of the trust’s different locations.

New guidance released by the Department for Transport (DFT) in June of this year removes the £1,000 cap on bikes-for-work schemes. The trust has chosen not to take advantage of these changes.

The benefit involves no exit fees and provides employees with the option to vary the period from 12 months to 18 months over which they pay for the bikes via the trust’s salary sacrifice scheme.

GCI’s commission rates of 7.5%, compared to an industry average of 12.5%, mean that employees will be empowered to go to local and independent vendors.

"I've booked the HR and Payroll Update course most years and during roles with at least 3 different employers. One thing remains the same; a course that is relevant, well delivered and enjoyable and that is key when trying to retain the many pieces of legislation changes to which payroll professionals are exposed."
