Jonathan Thompson, chief executive and permanent secretary of HMRC, has been awarded the honour of the Knights Commander of the Order of the Bath.
Sir Jonathan, as he is now known, was given the honour for his public service. He has been in his role at HMRC since April 2016 and was previously permanent secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
At HMRC Sir Jonathan is responsible for delivering the department’s strategy, including its transformation programme, business objectives and delivering customer service. He is also HMRC’s Principal Accounting Officer, accountable to parliament for the department’s income, expenditure and performance.
The Order of the Bath is an order of chivalry and was founded in 1725 for service of the highest calibre. The order has a civil and military division and is awarded in the following ranks: Knight Grand Cross (GCB), Knight Commander (KCB) and Companion (CB).
