This is the fourth quarter that HMRC have published a list of major tax defaulters. The list comes with the caveat that each entry on the list is specific to the default dates to which it refers.
The address is the one associated with the published person at the time of the default. It should not be assumed that tax defaults are currently taking place at the published address or by the published person because, for example:
the published person may have changed their behaviour the published person may no longer be at the published address the business currently at the published address may have no connection with published business the business currently at the published address may have the same name as the published business but could be under completely new managementHigh on the list is a payroll service company – Superpower Payroll Ltd, formerly of Sowerby Bridge near Halifax in Yorkshire, with a penalty of £2,082,199.76.
Also on the list is another payroll provider with penalties of £515,000, paid by TM Payroll Ltd in Bradford, on £736,000 of tax owed.
HMRC only publishes details where the taxpayer has not made a full and immediate disclosure either before or during an investigation, and the information is made publicly available for a maximum period of 12 months.
