HMRC launches a new free online Interactive Compliance Guidance tool to help businesses and individuals understand HMRC compliance checks.

It provides information and support about compliance checks undertaken by HMRC to make sure that the tax system is operating fairly and effectively and ensures that customers are:

  • Paying the right amount of tax at the right time
  • Claiming the right allowances and tax reliefs

The online tool can be used to help customers understand further the reasons for the compliance checks and how best to prepare for this through access to the right guidance and additional information that includes:

  • Understanding compliance checks
  • What to do if we’ve requested information or documents from you
  • Getting extra support due to your health or personal circumstances
  • Appointing someone to deal with HMRC on your behalf
  • What to do if you disagree with HMRC’s decision
  • Paying a tax assessment or penalty

HMRC compliance notification involves the following steps:

  • First, sending a letter and requesting information or documents
  • Followed by a discussion after the initial findings to understand your tax position
  • Finally, establishing the correct tax position prior to closing case and completing the checks.

The Interactive Compliance Guidance tool is available on GOV.UK

"I have attended many of The Learn Centre’s training courses in recent years. They are always of the highest professional standard and deliver updates on complicated HR and Payroll legislation, but in an easy to understand format. I would gladly recommend The Learn Centre to any potential client who is looking for HR & Payroll training courses, bespoke in-house training or expert advice."
