HMRC published in 2016 that they wanted to have seven million digital tax users by April 2017 however figures at the end of 2016 have shown this target has been beaten with 7.4 million people using the service – 400,00 more than targeted. These came from HMRC’s quarterly performance figures.
But this is only half the story.Although registrations are high, satisfaction targets with the service have not reached the targets set. The service achieved only 75.1% in the first nine months of 2016 – the first period of recording, against an 80% expected target and have in fact dropped at the end of the year to 74.2% to which HMRC have confirmed it will “continue to closely monitor our performance against this target as our digital services grow and develop”.
