International business process outsourcing and professional services company, Capita has signed up to the voluntary living wage scheme and will pay all UK based employees at least £9.00 an hour from April 2020. Approximately 6,000 salaried staff will benefit from the increase with those living in London set to receive a minimum rate of £10.55.

Capita outsourcing has been involved in large scale projects such as the congestion charge and the BBC licence fee. It is expected that all 40,000 UK employees will benefit from the increase, future plans are, to extend voluntary living wage to regular sub- contracted staff. The increases will be implemented as a result of a series of initiatives introduced at Capita in support of employee welfare and benefits.

Capita CEO Jon Lewis said: “In the second year of our multi-year transformation, I am delighted to be able to announce we will next year begin paying all UK employees the Real Living Wage as a minimum.

The Living Wage Commission is responsible for overseeing the calculation of the ‘independent Living Wage rates in London and the UK. The calculation of this rate is based on research highlighting changes to cost of living. The rates are reviewed November each year.
