In the budget this year, Rishi Sunak, chancellor of the exchequer announced the National Insurance holiday for veterans coming into civil employment with a forecasted start date of April 2021. To support and form the legislation, the government have announced a consultation on the changes to the relief model that will be available, and this consultation will run until the 5th October 2020.

This consultation seeks views on a range of issues and, where appropriate, the government’s preferred approach to the design and implementation of this policy.

The measure will introduce a Secondary (employers) Class 1 National Insurance relief on the wages of veterans for the first 12 months of their civilian employment and government are welcoming comments on how it intends to define ‘veterans’ for this relief, the employment periods that should qualify, and how it should be administered.

This consultation will be of most interest to employers, agents, and businesses and their representatives, as well as veterans’ groups.

"I have chosen The Learn Centre both for my own knowledge base and in-house training courses for my teams for many years. I have always been extremely impressed with the content of the courses, people engagement and the positive feedback from my staff."
