The Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service published its annual report for 2018/19, which reveals that the service has continued to see an increase in the demand for services pertaining to the number of applications involving employment tribunal claims.

Following the judgement from the Supreme Court on 23 July 2017, deeming that fees were unlawful it came as no surprise that over the last two years claims have been on the rise.

Whilst claims have not risen to the level they were prior to the introduction of fees, compared to the previous year; Acas noted an overall increase of 21 per cent demand for early conciliation together with a 40 per cent increase in the number of cases involving tribunal claims.

The report also revealed that pay or pay related matters was amongst the top cause of disputes of which 84 per cent were settled through the assistance of Acas.

To help meet the increased demand primarily relating to the challenges of the increase in workload, Acas recruited 98 new staff.

Statistics reflected a total of 1,237,245 contacts were made to Acas, access to the service is provided through a number of communication channels such as web chats, facebook, helpline messaging online and general telephone helpline assistance.The Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service published its annual report for 2018/19, which reveals that the service has continued to see an increase in the demand for services pertaining to the number of applications involving employment tribunal claims.
