Key Employment changes from April 2024

Investment Zones

In line with the government the previous announcement in 2022, 12 Investment Zones were confirmed, and in the Autumn Statement 2023, the period of relief doubled from 5 to 10 years.

The Real Living Wage

The real Living Wage is the only wage rate calculated based on what people need to live on. It currently stands at £12.00 (UK) and £13.15 (London).

Tribunal Fees

The Government has published a consultation seeking views on the reintroduction of Employment Tribunal and Employment Tribunal Appeals fees, which was previously abolished in July 2017.

Starting from April 2024, existing childcare support will be expanded in phases. By September 2025, most working families with children under the age of 5 will be entitled to 30 hours of childcare support.

Holiday pay for Part-Year and Irregular hours workers

The 4 weeks’ leave must be paid at ‘normal’ pay, which means including regular overtime and commission in the calculation. In contrast, the additional 1.6 weeks’ leave can be paid at basic pay only.
